Other Art

Portraits, murals, china and furniture are just few of my ‘other’ artwork

Other artwork I enjoy doing

Collected together here there are examples of various kinds of art I have undertaken.

I have painted onto fine bone china using underglaze china paints which have been kiln fired for durability. Teddies and flowers are shown here. I no longer do this as I have no access to a kiln.

Up cycled furniture finished with unique painted designs, stencilling or paint effects. Here I have used different paints depending on the surface but most often acrylics for fast drying and permanence of colours. The newer chalk paints are also useful for furniture and accept stencilling well. My old Victorian desk has a new look thanks to a coat of black paint, gold paint effect and stencilling. Any small piece of furniture needing a revamp is great for up cycling. I have lots of ideas!

I have several large pine boxes which I primed and base painted in acrylics before adding unique original hand-painted designs. I have a box all ready if you need a wedding gift. There’s a fairy toy box too which is large enough for a child to sit on. Another gift idea?

Cityscapes have proved to be one of my personal favourite subjects. Two large oil paintings of the back streets of Chicago were a challenge but I was pleased with them and they hang on my sitting room wall. I used my own photographs to capture the atmosphere and using photographs is the only way for me to paint such work I believe.

Do you have a photograph I can make into a painting for you? Or there’s an oil painting of the famous Shambles in York which might be a nice gift for anyone needing a reminder of that beautiful city. It’s my home town by the way.

Finally I should mention portrait painting, both of humans and pets. I have done likenesses of many film stars in oil paint and also one or two dogs. I did children in the past too but find portraits a bit too much of a challenge nowadays. I might just decide to paint my favourite rock band though. You never know. I am open to persuasion.

I am based in York but if you are not local to me I can advise on colours for an abstract piece from photos of your room.
